Yet Another Garden Update!
We finally got enough okra to fry up for supper. In fact, we got two meals out of it.
I got only one tomato so far, and I’m still dealing with the blossom end rot some, but much less since I fertilized.
I have lots of little green peppers and one kind of big one which is great because we’re having omelettes for breakfast this Sunday morning with tomatoes (if they cooperate), peppers, and basil from the garden.
The basil is full and lush and wanting to flower and seed so I keep trimming the tops off for now.
We planted several sweet potatoes and I’m excited to see how they turn out.
I’m still enjoying the mornings I get out early to water and weed, to snip the tops out of the basil, to cut the okra pods, check on the tomatoes and peppers.
Maybe next year we’ll raise another hog and some chickens so we can have home grown ham and eggs for our omelettes too!
And maybe next year I can plant my garden on time so we don’t have to wait until August to get an omelette out of it!
I hope you’re enjoying your summer!

I don’t think I like Okra, but that looks fantastic 🙂 I think the best part of the day is the early quiet mornings in the garden. Who would have ever thought after all of those years of “You cant go out until your weeding is finished” that you and I would enjoy gardening so much!
The early morning quiet time is the best, even though I’m not a morning person. But I am a peace and quiet person and getting that while outside in a garden is the best! Surprising indeed after all those years of dreading weeding that we find it so satisfying to pull a weed, roots and all, out of the dirt. I think that working in the dirt is one of the most true and honest things you can do with your time and I’m so glad I am making time for it. I hope someday I can live up to your legendary gardening skills!
The okra tasted good, especially since I grew it myself. Maybe I can fry you up some next time I’m home.
Boy does that fired okra look great. I love friend okra and of course have eaten very little in my adult life. My childhood was full of summer gardens and tons of friend okra and squash that mama always fried to that beautiful golden brown color. Just keep enjoying your hard work as you enjoy eating from your garden. Thanks for the memories.
You’re absolutely welcome! The fried okra made growing the garden so worthwhile!
That okra looks yummy! It’s been slow going in our garden this year as well. We’ve finally gotten a few tomatoes and I’m crossing my fingers that the bell pepper blossoms that have finally shown up produce a few peppers. It’s really a joy to go out every day to see what’s new in our little patch.
Absolutely! It’s been my sanity this summer, my little retreat. Thanks-the okra was good (but not as good as my mother-in-law used to make). I’ve been throwing the rest of the okra in the freezer for soup this winter and we finally have a few small tomatoes to enjoy as well. The green peppers are still small (I picked the biggest one for the omelette) but it’s just all so fascinating to watch. My 10 yr old grandson loves to help in the garden when he’s at the house and I totally encourage it! I’m glad you’re enjoying your garden!
