Small Things, Big Joy
All you have to do is watch the news these days to knock the joy right out of yourself. If you look for the little things that bring you joy, you can feel restored in no time. Here are some of the things, besides family and friends, that bring me joy.
Leaves shooting up through the ground that will flower and bring even more joy.
Wisteria hanging from trees casting its purple spell on me.
A catnap on the couch in the middle of the day.
The scent of honeysuckle or lilac wafting through the air.
The smile of a total stranger.
Babies–anywhere, anytime. Especially their tiny feet and hands.
A wood fire in a fireplace, in a fire pit, or in a bonfire.
Fresh cut flowers in the house.
Office supplies of any kind.
Love, in all its manifestations.
A blue sky with a few puffy clouds.
Buzzards circling in the sky–especially in a blue sky with a few puffy clouds.
Hot Earl Grey decaf with honey in a pretty mug.
Peanut donuts.
Good words strung together like a fine strand of pearls.
Mementos of my life so far.
My hometown.
Morning coffee with the hubbs.
A slice of Del Aureo’s pepperoni pizza and a cold cream soda.
A new pen.
A light dusting of snow on anything.
Dew drops on the grass.
The cuteness of baby animals.
Browsing through an antique store or junk shop.
Completing a project.
Chocolate chip cookies with walnuts in them.
Evergreen trees with different textures in different shades of green growing together.
A new, blank planner and the possibilities it holds.
A steady, soaking rain after a long dry spell.
Dogwood trees blooming in the woods.
Laundry dried outside.
Secret gardens.
It doesn’t take much for me to be joyful. The little things in life just make my heart sing!

Going barefoot, everywhere
Long walks in the woods on cool sunny days
Digging up rocks with my grand daughter like buried treasure
Leaving bits and pieces of art behind for others to find
Playing in the creek, stream, pond, or mud puddle
Finding that perfect bit of nature for an art project
Having children in my life to play with
Complimenting strangers and watching their face light up
Sharing stories around a bonfire
Collaborating on art projects with other artists
All very good things! We need to have a bonfire this summer. The pile out back is just about big enough!
A glas of chocolate milk ready to drink in the fridge…
Now that’s a glass full of joy!
Beautiful flowers blooming
Smell of cut grass
Working in my flower beds
Homegrown tomatoes
Visit from my friends
Smell of cakes cooking
Having a clean house
Talking to my good good friends from work
The love of my family and friends
I enjoy most everything in life some good and some bad but my GOD sees me through
Aside from family, time at the creek, wild daisies growing in the yard, a monarch butterfly, watching the sky turn colors at sunset, being soaked by a warm summer rain, summer drives down back country roads with the radio turned up, the look in the eyes of a stranger when I thank them for their (military) service, puppy breath, the glow of fireflies…
Hey my friend. I am just catching up on your writings. Love, love, love this. Your thoughts just put a smile on my face. I will do just one. Watching the birds, particularly the cardinals, eat from the feeders. Thank you.
That’s a good one too. I love watching them in the bird bath as well!
