Go Outside and Play
Do you get enough vitamin P? Ok, so you’re an adult now, that doesn’t mean you have to stop playing. Vitamin P(lay) is an essential part of living a good life, so go outside and play.
That was one of my mother’s favorite phrases. “Go outside and play.”
We played kickball in our back yard, made up games, climbed trees, rode bikes, made mud pies, and often stayed out until the street lights came on.
In the winter we built snow forts, had snowball fights, went ice skating at the park. We could always find something fun to do outside.
At Christmas time, my older sister and I would pool our money and walk to the plaza to shop for Christmas gifts for our family. We’d walk and talk, shop, then stop off at Jester’s for a burger and fries. We’d walk home on snowy sidewalks by the glow of the street lights, acting goofy and usually laughing until we cried.
I love to see families playing outside, exploring their world. There are so many ‘Plug-n-Play’ devices these days that I have to unplug-n-play on purpose just to keep in touch with the world.
Play a game of tag. Learn to ride a motorcycle. Hide and seek with your kids or grandkids (or neices and nephews).
Summer is just around the corner. Make sure you get enough play time.
Go to the beach. Climb a rock wall. Take somebody’s kids to the park. Walk barefoot in the grass.
And on a rainy day, stay in and play a game of checkers. Or a game of SORRY. (My grandkids usually beat me now!) Rummy. Yahtzee. Crazy Eights. Go Fish.
I’m not going to spout all the reasons that play is good for you, just go outside and play and you’ll remember why!
Do you play enough?

I love to go outside and play but it is mostly work, cleaning out my flower beds and looking at the beauty that GOD gives us each day. The birds that sing for me, the flowers blooming and the wonderful smell of outside. Both of my grandsons are older now and don’t get to visit to often but it is such a joy when they are here. I always get hugs and kisses that melt my heart. There is nothing better than feeling the rain drops on your skin and feeling the sun while outside. I enjoy every minute of every day. Great job my friend love to read your post.
What you do outside may be classified as “work”, but I can see the joy it brings you and that makes it play! Your flowers are always so beautiful! Finding the joy in what you do every day instead of thinking of it as drudgery makes you a more playful person. I’m going to come to visit you one day when we’re having a light summer rain so we can go outside and get bombarded with drops of love from heaven!
Miss seeing you my friend
Working makes it harder to get out and about…but I’ll make it your way soon! I miss you too!
Anyone who knows me knows my opinion on the subject. Play, fun, laughter, connecting with others and with nature are the cornerstones of a life well lived. But don’t take my word for it.
“Play is not frivolous. It is not a luxury. It is not something to fit in after completing all the important stuff. Play is the important stuff. Play is a drive, a need, a brain-building must-do.

You said it sister!
Absolutely. I go outside every chance I get. My favorite thing in all the world is play outside with all my great nieces and nephews and my God grandchildren. We play frisbee, play in the water, play ball, swing, catch fire flies and just run around and act crazy. Love the outside and at 56 Aunt Susan can still play hard even with bad knees. The kids keep me young and moving.
I bet they all love it when Aunt Susan comes for a visit! That’s awesome. They do keep you young!
