Looking For a Miracle

A woman where I work, a resident, was recently sent to the hospital.  I heard that she was now in Hospice care.

She’s seven years younger than I am.

That seems so unfair to me.

I’m always looking for a miracle to right the wrongs of the world.  I went to sleep last night thinking about that.

Sometimes the miracles we get aren’t the miracles we ask for.  They aren’t big and splashy.  They don’t end up on the six o’clock news.

I woke up this morning to my own miracle: I woke up this morning.  The miracle of life.  Another day to be thankful for.

My granddaughter, born almost a year and a half ago at one pound three ounces, is not just surviving-she’s thriving.  She’s walking and happy and beautiful and transitioning her own little language into ours.  A miracle if I’ve ever seen one.

It feels like we’re always waiting for a miracle, but what we fail to realize is that each new day of life is a miracle.

I see the oak tree outside my window.  It’s declining in its old age but it’s still a magnificent tree.  It started its life as an acorn.

Metaphorically speaking, so did you.  So did I.

We start out small and grow into these magnificent creatures and we spend a lifetime trying to fit in and searching for meaning and the truths of the universe when it’s all right here.

We can be the miracle in someone else’s life.  We can let them know they matter.  We have the power to make them feel loved and worthwhile.  Maybe along with asking for a miracle, we should try to be the miracle.

Each day we receive that greatest of gifts.  Another day of life.  Another day to love and grow and share and deepen our understanding of our humanity.  Of our strength and fragility.

Each day is another opportunity to fulfill our purpose: to use our gifts to help each other through the difficulties of this life until we move on to the next life.

We don’t have to search for ourselves, we just have to be ourselves.

Be the miracle you wish to see in the world.

Absolutely. You also have been a blessing to me! There are miracles everywhere, we only have to slow down to see them!

Thank you Carol for this lovely message. I am so thankful your granddaughter is doing great. Yes that is a miracle. I see miracles almost everyday. Just look outside. Nature is a miracle from God I love everyday. We are also all miracles from God above. Thank you Carol for the reminder of miracles. Love you girl. Take care.

Thanks, Susan. It is amazing when we look at life through the lens of seeing everyday miracles all around us, and especially looking at my sweet granddaughter. We all have our good days and our bad days, but the world and everything around us is so miraculous it’s hard to find a reason to want anything more. Love you too!
