me being me…how this works
me being me… is about finding and celebrating the unique qualities we each possess. While our similarities bind us together, our differences make life interesting, and sharing these differences helps us all grow as human beings.
From early childhood, society, school, peers, and sometimes even parents seem to want us to be someone other than ourselves. How many times have you heard, ‘Why can’t you be like so-and-so?” The obvious answer, of course, is, “Because I’m not so-and-so, I’m me.” We’ve all been there a time or two in our lives.
Throughout my life I have found that once one person openly begins living from that place in the heart where their true self lies, others feel inspired to do the same—like they’ve suddenly been given permission to be themselves. So here I am, me being me, inspiring you to be you. Give yourself permission to be yourself.
The first step is discovering what your deep down beliefs are, how you truly feel about yourself, other people, and the world at large. Sometimes pausing between an incident and our reaction to it allows us time to clarify how we actually feel about it before we express ourselves. Your insights might just surprise you!
In order to be yourself, you have to know yourself. If you want to live your most authentic life, at some point, you have to allow what you have learned about yourself to sink in and inform the decisions you make about how you live your life. For example, are you the kind of person who needs to recharge by being alone or do you gather energy from being around other people? Personally, I need alone time to recharge and knowing that about myself, I make sure I have enough of it to keep me feeling good.
So, here’s how this works: I’m going to post once a week. This will give you plenty of time to read at your leisure and hopefully, time to share some of your story, some encouragement, or your opinion about what I posted, or someone else’s comment. I’d like for us to build a community of people who learn from each other in a place of acceptance and understanding. I expect to learn as much from you (or probably more) than you will learn from me.
I would love to share this journey with you. There is still so much to discover about ourselves, other perspectives, what motivates us, what is personal, what is universal. I believe firmly that there is something I can teach each person I meet, and I believe just as firmly that there is something I can learn from each person I meet. We’re all on this planet here and now, so we’re literally all in this together. Let’s travel with each other for a while and enjoy the journey!
